What does the medical examination for Taiwan entail?

The examination form, titled “Items required for health certificate,” must be completed by an independent physician. The medical examination includes:

  • Thoracic X-ray (not always required): This chest X-ray detects possible lung problems, such as TB.
  • Blood analysis for Syphilis (TPHA/VDRL): This is important to rule out sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Physical examination: A thorough check-up of your overall health.
  • Medical history: Discussion of your medical history and any current health problems.
  • Blood pressure: Check to see if your blood pressure is within a healthy range.
  • Height/weight (BMI): Measurement to understand your body mass index.
  • Urinalysis: Analysis of your urine to check health indicators such as glucose, protein, and signs of infections.

What should you bring to the examination?

  • The form from the consulate.
  • Your proof of identity.
  • Any medications or a list from the pharmacy.
  • Some urine (this does not need to be collected while fasting).
  • Possibly a health card – to register at the hospital for the chest X-ray.
  • Passport photo.
